Apologies for the delay of the 2’s match report.

Full of confidence from the successes of last season, the mighty 2’s gathered at Clapham Junction station for the 12:37 train to Rosslyn Park.

The boys arrived in high spirits ready to make our mark on the league. Kitted and booted up, we headed out for the first warm up of a new season. 30 minutes of warm up later, the oppo were nowhere to be seen. Not to be distracted we pressed on with a fast and sharp run through. It was only as we were finishing our warm up that the Rosslyn had the decency to turn up.

Angered by the lack of respect shown by Rosslyn Park, the boys headed for kick off and to start the season proper! Unfortunately it wasn’t the start we were hoping for. A new team and perhaps lack of familiarity with each other caused us to concede two quick try’s. A bit of structure led us to get back into the game. That was until I decided to put in a lovely cross field kick on our try line straight to the oppo winger for a gift in the corner, earning myself dick of the day. All was not lost however; a breakaway try from debutant Harry saw us back in the game. 19-7 down at half time.

Spurred on by a try just before half time, OH started the second half in a much more positive manner. Well executed structure and some monster 50-22’s from fly half Harry saw us spend some quality time in the oppos half. Three solid try’s later, it was all squared up with 5 to go. Players running out of steam on both sides lead to a scrappy passage of play with the ball being shared evenly. With the last play of the game one of their players broke through and an offload saw them dot down under the posts to conclude the game. 31-26 full time.

Heartbreak for OH, but many positives to take forward. Competing at a higher level with a new team shows the boys deserve to be there. Onwards and upwards!
